About the American Academy of Osteopathy

The American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) is a 501c(3) non-profit membership based association. The membership consists of: Doctors of Osteopathy, supporters and affiliates, sponsors, student doctors and international members. The Academy employs six office personnel who provide support to twenty committees and two boards. The AAO staff also facilitates teleconference meetings, an annual convocation, and educational seminars for the medical profession. The AAO’s website provides access to the public and members for resources; as well as purchase of books and events.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the American Academy of Osteopathy is to teach, advocate, and research the science, art and philosophy of osteopathic medicine, emphasizing the integration of osteopathic principles, practices and manipulative treatment in patient care.

  1. To maintain, advance and advocate the AAO as a resource of educational excellence on osteopathy.
  2. To evaluate and advance policies which will assure the financial growth and viability of the AAO.
  3. To develop programs and activities, which foster growth and development of the membership.
  4. To implement policies ensuring optimal structure and function of the AAO's boards and committees.
  5. To facilitate programs promoting collaborative efforts that further OPP/OMT research and training.
  6. To serve the osteopathic medical profession as an advocate, resource and guide in policy making and standard setting.
