Every March the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) convenes an annual meeting know as the Convocation of the American Academy of Osteopathy. Convocation is an extremely student-friendly convention that offers classes, workshops, and lectures to physicians and students. Some student sessions are held jointly with physicians, but most are geared strictly to our level of expertise and experience. At Convocation we have the chance to meet with and learn from physicians across the United States, practice modalities and approaches we do not learn at school, and do a little sightseeing as well! Last March Convocation was held in Colorado Springs, CO at the Broadmoor Hotel & Convention Center. In March of 2007, Convocation will be held in Dallas, TX at the InterContinental Hotel & Convention Center and the theme will be "Unlocking the Secrets of the Thoracic Cage: Applying Functional Anatomy and Physiology to Clinical Practice" hosted by Dr. John G. Hohner, DO, FAAO. For a listing of Convocation dates and locations for the next several years, click here! To see a schedule of Convocation events for the upcoming meeting in March 2007 as well as registration materials, please visit the Academy's Convocation page or click on the image below to download your own copy of the 2008 Convocation Manual. Some of the great activities that are geared towards students include: Evening with the Stars and Stripes - The best osteopathic physicians in the world (stars), together with OMM fellows from osteopathic schools nation-wide (stripes), gather together during the evening to give one on one demonstrations of osteopathic manipulative medicine and answer related questions. A. Hollis Wolf Competition - A student oriented case presentation competition that features several outstanding demonstrations and great prizes (last March our first place competitor won a trip to Europe courtesy of the European Osteopathic Federation!). To learn more about the A. Hollis Wolf competition, click here! Keynote Speech - Following the A. Hollis Wolf presentation we are privileged to hear from some of the best osteopathic physicians. Last March the lecture was entitled "The World of Osteopathy" by Dr. Viola Frymann. A world-renowned osteopathic physician and teacher, Dr. Frymann lectured about her experiences in spreading Osteopathy in this country and around the world. Student Workshops - Many of the world's best osteopathic physicians give hour-long seminars and demonstrations of osteopathic techniques and modalities suited to student's abilities. The Student Reception - Students from across the country gather together at a local restaurant/bar/sociable setting to converse and have a good time together with the National UAAO council. There are many more fun and wonderful activities to experience at Convocation, so come join us in March of 2007 in Colorado Springs! Remember, for registration materials and information, go to the AAO's Convocation program page later this year. Unable to attend The American Academy of Osteopathy's Annual Convocation?
