UAAO Tutorial Page - Monthly Suggestions

Following is a helpful list of suggestions for what to do in your local chapter throughout the year. It is not all-inclusive (so you will want to make sure to keep abreast of the various deadlines throughout the year) but you may come across some helpful ideas and direction to aid you having a great year with your local UAAO chapter!

 

Summer (June, July and August)

Meet with your officers and plan your events for the upcoming year:

  • Brainstorm about your membership drive, speakers, outreach and fundraisers
  • Delegate responsibilities to each officer (see pages 18-19 of the Chapter Notebook)
  • Create a T-shirt design to have ready for your membership drive
  • Print the UAAO Introductory brochure to distribute at the membership drive and, if possible, mail to incoming students before the start of the school year (ask your student affairs office if they can include it in their mailings)
  • Discuss what company you would like to use for table sales:
        a. Osteopathic Equipment
        b. Torrance Tables
        c. Stronglite Tables
  • Start to contact OMM faculty, OMM fellows and local osteopathic physicians to speak at lunch and afternoon meetings and to run hands-on workshops. You can give them a T-shirt for speaking at the meetings!
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (see pages 55-57 of the Chapter Notebook for more information on the Year End Report and click here for the template for your monthly report)


September

  • Tell members to start thinking and planning their case for the A. Hollis Wolf Case Presentation Competition and distribute the A. Hollis Wolf packets to interested members
  • Start to schedule your visiting clinician for after mid-November. They are popular and are booked soon in the year
  • Tell your 3rd and 4th year members about the Vicki Dyson scholarship
  • Encourage members to attend The AOA Convention held from Monday, October 16th to Friday, October 20th, 2006 in Las vegas, NV. Although the UAAO has no business meetings, this is an important event for osteopathic medical students
  • Remember submit your article for the October Still Point by the 15th
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (see pages 55-57 of the Chapter Notebook for more information on the Year End Report and click here for the template for your monthly report)


October

  • Start discussing The AAO Convocation at your meetings and get a sign-up sheet of those interested. The AAO Convocation is held from Wednesday, March 21st to Sunday, March 25th, 2006 in Colorado Sprinngs, Colorado
  • Plan to hold your Fall Table Sale
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (see pages 55-57 of the Chapter Notebook for more information on the Year End Report and click here for the template for your monthly report)


November

  • Using the sign-up sheet start to plan what kinds of fundraiser are needed to lessen the cost of The AAO Convocation for members
  • Recruit creative members to enter The AAO Convocation T-shirt design competition. The winner receives a FREE osteopathic manipulation table and one of their designed T-shirts. These T-shirts are the official AAO Convocation T-shirts (Please Note - this contest is not held every year - you will receive information from the National Coordinator when the contest is held)
  • Remember to fill out the Visiting Clinician Evaluation Form after the visit to your school
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (see pages 55-57 of the Chapter Notebook for more information on the Year End Report and click here for the template for your monthly report)


December

  • Have you scheduled your Visiting Clinician?
  • Try to organize and plan The AAO Convocation. Contact travel agencies, hotels and try to get discounts for your school
  • Remind members about The A. Hollis Wolf Competition
  • Remember to fill out the Visiting Clinician Evaluation Form after the visit to your school
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (see pages 55-57 of the Chapter Notebook for more information on the Year End Report and click here for the template for your monthly report)


January

  • Plan to hold your Spring Table Sale
  • Finalize your list of members that are attending Convocation and collect their registration fees (due January 31st)
  • Visit the website and vote in the T-shirt competition (when contest is held)
  • Remind 3rd and 4th year members about the Vicki Dyson scholarship
  • Plan to receive a Pre-Convocation letter mailed to the Chapter President. This letter contains myriad information to help you with Convocation events and planning
  • Remember to fill out the Visiting Clinician Evaluation Form after the visit to your school
  • Remember submit your article for the Pre-Convocation Still Point by the 15th
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (see pages 55-57 of the Chapter Notebook for more information on the Year End Report and click here for the template for your monthly report)


February

  • Arrange your local chapter's competition for a spot in The A. Hollis Wolf Competition for interested members
  • Hold a Convocation informational meeting and get volunteer sign-ups for your local chapter booth and the executive council booth. Make sure your members commit to these times because you do not want to miss any more of the convocation than necessary
  • Remember to fill out the Visiting Clinician Evaluation Form after the visit to your school
  • Begin to assemble your Year End Report and supporting documentation in a 3-ring binder for submission to Phyllis
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (click here for the template for your monthly report)


March

  • Finalize your transportation and hotel plans for the AAO Convocation
  • Talk with your members about the importance of D.O. Day on the Hill held in Washington, D.C. in the middle of April
  • Remember to fill out the Visiting Clinician Evaluation Form after the visit to your school
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (see pages 55-57 of the Chapter Notebook for more information on the Year End Report and click here for the template for your monthly report)


April

  • Meet with your new incoming officers and help to make a smooth transition by giving them documents and paperwork
  • Remember to fill out the Visiting Clinician Evaluation Form after the visit to your school
  • Remember submit your article for the Post-Convocation Still Point by the 15th
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (see pages 55-57 of the Chapter Notebook for more information on the Year End Report and click here for the template for your monthly report)


May

  • Plan with your members to attend the annual AOA House of Delegates meeting in Chicago, IL to discuss issues that directly affect osteopathic medical students
  • Remember to collect documentation of all of your events (see pages 55-57 of the Chapter Notebook for more information on the Year End Report and click here for the template for your monthly report)
